Why knowing your history is the key

I remember a project one of my sons had in high school in which he had to draw out a long timeline and place dots at intervals representing significant events in his life. His birth, of course, and the milestones of first words and first steps were followed by other...

What motivates you more, fear or love?

“Trauma” is a scary word, but all it really means is that something feels very threatening to us – and without a doubt, Covid-19 has threatened our very way of life!
.
It’s SO easy to feel out of control amidst the craziness of Covid-19. So Moms, let’s focus on these 5 things to gain back that control!
.
1. Put STRUCTURE into your day: Sleep, eat, work, play – schedule time for all 4 key areas.
.
2. Build in things to LOOK FORWARD TO: Could be something small! Like a favorite show, evening walk, or indulgent treat.
.
3. Focus on the things that bring PURPOSE to your life: At the end of the day, make sure you can look back and say, “I did something that was important to me today.” Could be organizing your closet, serving a neighbor, or spending special time with your kiddos.
.
4. CONNECT with others: Call or FaceTime your mom, friend, sister! It’s simple, but it makes a world of difference.
.
5. Spend some time OUTSIDE: Even if just for a few minutes, you need to remind yourself that there’s a big beautiful world out there – and it’s all going to be ok!

But here's the problem with using comparison as our guide...you can't accurately compare things that are inherently different. Every mom, child, and family is unique with their own skills, talents, resources and interests. Your family is beautifully one-of-a-kind. When we give ourselves permission to accept that each of us is simply discovering our *own* new normal, instead of a single perfect solution, we find space to explore without guilt or expectation. Next time you scroll through your social media feed, remember that what you are seeing is simply a collection of ideas -- ideas to try, ideas to pass by, ideas to build from. As you explore your new normal right now, I invite you to remember... there is no *right* way to do this, just *your* way. Have fun, try something new, fail, try again, get curious, and extend yourself (and those around you) grace and space as you figure this out. You've got this! ... See MoreSee Less
